Alaska Tries to Comply With Sex Offender Law

KTUU.com : Alaska trying to comply with sex offender law.

Anchorage(AP)- Like all but one other state
(that is Ohio), Alaska has not yet complied with a 3-year-old federal sex offender registration law ( a.k.a. Adam Walsh Act / SORNA). The extended deadline is July.

KTUU reports Alaska is having trouble complying with the law known as SORNA because the state constitution bars retroactive laws, and SORNA would apply to offenders who were convicted before the law was enacted. Alaska also uses a two-tiers system while SORNA uses a three-tier classification system.
